Prof. Tracy Lawson (Professor in Plant Physiology)
My research group focuses: Dynamic stomatal response: We examine stomatal response in relation to photosynthesis and the impact on plant water use efficiency. In particular we are interested in the speed and dynamic stomatal responses and how naturally fluctuating light environments impact on the kinetics of responses. Guard cell photosynthesis: Using transgenic approaches we are manipulating guard cell photosynthesis in order to understand the role of the guard cell chloroplasts. Natural variation: We are exploring variation in stomatal behaviour and photosynthetic capacity in a range of plants include bred line of wheat and barley to determine the extent of variation in these two fundamental processes in order to explore the possibly to exploit these for future crops. |
Imaging
We use an array of novel imaging techniques to carry out our research, including chlorophyll fluorescence and thermal imaging
|
Field work
Part of our Ecophysiology research involves measuring plants in the desert of Saudi Arabia.

Equipment development
In order to carry out some of our research we need to design and construct equipment for our specific research needs. |
